Among the up and coming trainers of Hoenn, Selena learned the reputation Cait Alfric held. A mysterious public figure. Celebi’s chosen one. That is what she is to her. And nothing more.

And it is this reputation that made Selena more excited to take on the challenge of the grass and fairy-type gym leader. So when the invitation to proceed with her challenge was finally sent and notified to her assistant, she immediately took the corviknight cab into Cait’s lair. She felt like she needed to learn something from her first gym battle as a challenger.

But she must first figure her way past the labyrinth of hedged and greeneries, adorned by the fresh scent of earth. Circe, her long-time partner, was her companion amidst the chittering noises and gazing eyes of the creatures surrounding them. The sight of the looming river, however, was nearing her horizon and before she even knew it, she was already crossing the bridge to circular battle field.

“Hello, Ms. Alfric? I’m here for the challenge!”

togekiss ♂: serene grace - sky attack | extreme speed | aura sphere | air slash | smart strike | encore

cait hummed quietly to herself, preoccupied by daintily plucking at her instrument. she had always been fond of instruments such as the guitar, harp and violin. as a child she had been raised with music, a majority of her tribe well-acquainted with a musical device or two.

'a pity i'm a bit rusty nowadays. i barely get time to practice.'

so she had interwoven her playing with time spent awaiting new challengers. even now she began to toy with her harp, the small item comfortably nestled with her grasp as selena made her appearance. she'd pause and lift her gaze toward the pink-haired challenger, blinking for a moment before she gave a nod.

"you're miss... desmarais, yes?"

if her memory served and the time was right, she had scheduled her challenge at this specific window of time. as she spoke a togekiss fluttered from above, having been perched nearby on one of the many trees which occupied her gym. he landed neatly and folded his wings, executing a polite bow before the sranger as cait returned to a standing position; setting her harp aside as she did so.

"this will be a one on one," she began, announcing the rules. "whoever is left standing will be determined the winner. any questions? if not - you're very welcome to begin."

“I am! Selena Desmarais,” She noted that there should not be a hint of pride should her challenge be accepted—today, she was the challenger—so she left out the information about being a fellow gym leader and introduced herself as: “Reporter from Vantage and part-time pokémon trainer.”

The challenger nodded as Cait handed down her instructions for the gym challenge. Afterwards, a togekiss perched on top of a nearby branch, greeting Circe and her person as the gym leader commences the battle.

With a one-on-one, it was obvious who would Selena choose for the battle. Her partner has always been part of her gym battles in various regions. Circe stepped forward, drawing the staff from one of its manes and prepared to launch an attack as soon as her trainer permits.

Without the need for more words, the delphox raised her weapon and aimed at the togekiss with a blast of WILL-O-WISP. Small wisps of purple-colored flames began to conjure on her wand and launched themselves at the togekiss. It was as if they have done this before: that is why Selena is confident with choosing the vixen for her first gym challenge in Hoenn.

“Circe and I have a bond that has been tested through time. I hope you could see it in our battle and approve us.”

the application of a burn debuff made for a clever opener, especially since it would inevitably whittle away at her togekiss's health. but there was a flaw in the plan, especially since cait had a clever retort in mind.

"encore, togekiss."

her togekiss trembled a little, visibly shaken as a sickening heat began to coarse throughout his flight-worthy form. his wings gave a twitch, a grimace tugging at the simple features of his face before he flapped his wings and took to the air. his mouth opened wide, the orb to manifest there large and filled with a curious power.

it was promptly launched, the move largely non-damaging, but capable of inflicting an ailment upon the dual-type that could prove most inconvenient.

"we'll see how you both fair," cait remarked, dipping her head. "but i highly doubt you'll disappoint."

fire engulfed her togekiss's form, the pokemon released a grunt that betrayed the brief flash of agony he felt.

Using another WILL-O-WISP after her target has been burned was not so smart which is why it was smart the togekiss used ENCORE to lock her delphox’s moves.

Upon hitted by the luminous orb from the jubilee pokémon, Circe sprakled in white glimmer. Selena ordered FIRE BLAST and she could only attempt wisps of fire at his opponent. Likewise, Cait did not disappoint.

“Thank you for your vote of confidence. I believe you’ll recognize it once I demonstrate my skills.” She looked at her pokémon would persistent eyes—despite the inconvinience of the ENCORE on her team, they were far from giving up the fight.

cait was relieved that togekiss would only have to deal with a festering heat instead of proper attacks for the spell, her mind working through roughly several ideas in the span of moments as she considered various stratagems.

'they're not the most mobile creatures - are they?'

she was reminded of her own braxien, who favored a more stationary method when it came to administering powerful attacks.

"sky attack, togekiss."

cait would gauge the pokemon's speed and mobility, curious of how'd they'd handle bodily administered attacks. her pokemon rushed forward at her command, revealing themselves to be of above average speed despite their bulk.

After the togekiss took off, Selena’s delphox once again glimmered with the familiar white light. Wisps of purple and orange hue surrounded the vixen, wasting again energies that could have blasted the flying-type with hot flame. She had faith the fox pokémon will endure and will come back with a stronger retaliation.

her pokemon carefully tilted his wings, gaining air and distancing himself from the field. he'd hover momentarily, his muscles flexing beneath his fine feathers as he prepared himself physically and anchored himself mentally. in the span of seconds he transitioned into a blur, his gaze fixed upon the bipedal fox as he sought to ram mercilessly into its lithe form.

After the togekiss’s SKY ATTACK connected with the delphox, it followed with an EXTREMESPEED that blurred right into the the vixen. Good thing was the delphox had been freed from the curse of its ENCORE.

“Circe, blast him!”

The impact was intense. Circe was already feeling the weariness from the consecutive attacks, but it was not without considerstion that she would attempt a FIRE BLAST towards the flying-type after it hit her. The flames from the wisps had began collective themselves into the delphox’s staff, and when she reckoned it was enough, she sent it towards Cait’s partner.

the fire's blast was unpleasantly hot, leaving singed feathers and tender flesh in its wake. her togekiss nearly became unbalanced mid-air, flapping unsteadily for a moment.

"steady."

cait granted the pokemon a brief window of time to recover before issuing another command.

"sky attack."

her togekiss plunged toward the fire-type, a slight grimace tugging at his features as he did so.

The retaliation from the fast approaching togekiss was gathering the residual flames and wisps from the arena and using MYSTICAL FIRE once the SKY ATTACK connected with the delphox.

Circe was sent rolling towards Selena’s direction as the white creature tackled the vixen with its flying-type move. Scars and wounds were now much visible on Circe’s mane, but she was not the one suffering from the burn. “Now!”

The flames, sharpening like arrows, directed towards the togekiss with a kiss of fiery blow.

CIRCE (DELPHOX) uses MYSTICAL FIRE.

it burned.

her togekiss released a noise of agony as they were set ablaze by fire that clung stubbornly onto their feathered exterior. they flailed and flapped awkwardly in the air, shrieking with pain and rage as they sought to extinguish themselves. cait grimaced at the sight and sound of her companion's suffering - and had she been of a weaker disposition - she'd have brought the battle to an immediate halt.

but she had learned sometime ago that such an option would only be detrimental to her pokemon in the long run. they needed to learn how to push past the discomfort - to press onward in hopes of achieving victory no matter the cost.

"extreme speed!"

with a cry as the last of the flames vanished into thin wisps of smoke, the pokemon became a blur - rushing toward the fox with every intention of retaliating against the creature.

The delphox knew the value of waiting.

When cait alfric ordered her next attack, the delphox reassured her trainer she knew what to do next for retaliation. The vixen received the flying-type’s extremespeed but not without receiving a huge boost of power afterwards. From its scars simmered flame-hot steam of fire-power, its BLAZE lingering when it raised its wand to launch a FIRE BLAST point-blank at the opponent.

”Destroy him!”

DELPHOX activates BLAZE.
DELPHOX uses FIRE LAST.
